This is what we do

nfcaA variety of membership benefits and services

We are often asked, “What can you or do you do for us?” The British Columbia Floor Covering Association (BCFCA) recently celebrated 50 years as the voice of the floorcovering industry for members in all parts of B.C., including the lower mainland of Vancouver, northern and central B.C., the southern interior and Vancouver Island.

The BCFCA has a new executive director, Thomas Foreman. Foreman has replaced Gay Woodward, who retired after 31 years with the Association. Foreman is also the president and executive director of the Building Supply Industry Association (BSIA).

We have new offices, a boardroom and a large warehouse. We are encouraging our members to see and use our facilities. The boardroom and warehouse are used for meetings, presentations and training seminars. Johnsonite has rented the warehouse for four installation clinics. We recently had the head economist for Scotiabank give a talk on the world economy. This was very well attended. Our shared staff and premises with the BSIA is opening many new opportunities for both associations.

The BCFCA brings a wealth of experience, information and benefits for members, including:

  1. The NFCA reference manual, your universal flooring guide, a comprehensive, respected and widely used information source.

The British Columbia economy is rebounding. We are looking forward to a good strong future for the floorcovering industry. Housing and commercial building starts are up, investment is up and our population continues to grow. There are many new players bringing flooring products from places like China and Korea, particularly in hardwoods and vinyl (LVT). The influx of these products certainly tells us we are now, more than ever, in a changing global market and we must be ready to adapt.

As in most areas, workmanship and installation continue to dominate the part of our industry that needs constant upgrading. The BCFCA urges our members to send their installers to the annual installers convention and/or to register them in the Floor Covering Apprenticeship Program. Most of the grievance inspections done through our Consumer Affairs Program are Hardwood and Laminate, and of these, up to 70 percent are installation-related problems. The BCFCA has regular sales training and installation seminars and promotes these heavily with our members.

The Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is a BCFCA specifiable, third party, commercial flooring inspection service. This inspection service tracks the process of new flooring installation from beginning to end. For more details, please visit www.mfcsi.com, or call Chris Maskell at the BCFCA: 604-817-2740.
